Calling

April 16, 2012 in Blogs

Before I can tell my life what I want to do with it, I must listen to my life telling me who I am…Vocation does not come from a voice “out there” calling me to become something I am not. It comes from a voice “in here” calling me to be the person I was born to be, to fulfill the original selfhood given me at birth by God. -Parker Palmer

Isn’t that a great quote?

Wow, so I experienced some eye-opening, destiny driven days last week! I conjoin with the blind man who said, “I once was blind but now I see!”. God has graciously and mercifully given me so many nuggets, wisdom, direction, strategies and of course JOKES to laugh my way to the Primary Purpose for my life. God is so good…….and the church says, all the time!

Ever since I have been on this new “ride” called “Fulfilling Your Calling”….it has been one turn after another, but that is what makes the ride fun & exciting, right? By faith, by the at the end of this, my last words would be “Wow, what a ride!”. As long as I don’t try to jump out, or tell the attendant to stop and let me off before its over than I’m sure I’ll be okay and arrive safety, unharmed and ready for the next!

I wanted to share a few nuggets that God allowed me to be a part of last week. I hope as you embark upon your journey, and as a main character in your own story that you can use some of this to apply to your own life destinations ports. If you are already ahead of most of us and are have already hopped on your “ride”, I hope nuggets the nuggets below will encourage you to stay on course, or even help you to throw both hands up in the air, and scream “Woo-Hoo!”

I was looking at a show called Lifeclass on OWN TV. Bishop Jakes and Oprah was talking about our Purpose…The show was absolutely amazing! I had to record it and look at it a few times, because it had so much “meat” in it.
Here are some of my notes:
- If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. Your passion will lead you to your purpose.
-The real job in life is to figure out why I’m here and then go about the business of doing that.
-Listen to your inner voice
-Purpose & Passion are interconnected
-Your life has become a prison because your life is built around where you’ve been not where you are going. That’s why you need to irrigate your life with new people who are not limited by your gifting.
-Put yourself in an environment that is conducive to where you want to go.

I also stumbled upon a great resource online (www.infj.com) that said:
-Don’t think about an occuPATION think about an occuPASSION. (Isn’t this a great sentence?)

I’m still not quite sure how I stumbled upon this book (God is comical) but all I know is that I went to Amazon and bought it without knowing anything but the title. This book turns out to be “a just in time” book for this season in my life. The title is Live Your Calling: A practical guide to Finding and Fulfilling Your Mission in Life.
Here are some notes:
-Your calling is an invitation to live the life you are meant to live.
-God calls us to undertake tasks and roles we cannot accomplish on our own so that we can see His power at work.
-Dallas Willard describes the crucial idea of discipleship as “learning from Jesus to live my life as he would live my life if he were I”
-God says that his power is made perfect in our weaknesses. He calls us to do things that we cannot do in our own power so that we will draw on his power.
-It doesn’t matter what you have been doing up to this moment. God calls you to be a part of his great work in this world, and thereby become the person he created you to be.
-God is choosing you for his team

Lets continue to ride…I’m just getting started!
